I actually found a tolerably good burrito here in Hua Hin, where I am at the moment. Wasn’t quite what you’d get in Mexico, or even a taqueria in Santa Rosa, but it was in the ballpark.

As for Guinness, your options are limited my friend. If you want it on tap, you’re sh*t out of luck. There are a few places here and there where you can get it in a can, but it’s not like the pub draught cans you find in the West, and it tastes odd — but it’s still good, and better than no stout at all. But it will cost you — the cheapest I’ve found it is 100,000 VND ($5.35) American at an Aussie expat bar called the Blue Gecko. The “Irish” expat bar here, Sheridans, has it closer to $6, as does Le Pub (you can find these places via lonelyplanet.com).

If you are staying near the river in District One though, you can walk to Sheridan’s or the Blue Gecko. If you’re jonesing for western food, check out the Black Cat — but if you’re only here for a week, you’ll want to check out the local food, and District One provides you with no end of options there. Have fun!

Well I won’t be one of “those” people that gives you all kinds of warnings about moving to a foreign country, instead I would like to wish you all the best while you are there. I hope you find what you are looking for in your life, but from the sounds of it, you have found what you are looking for. It just happens to be half way around the world! Drop me a line sometime and maybe a postcard.

Will you be teaching English to adults? Conversational? Sounds kinda cool. You are a good teacher from what I can remember I wouldn’t have the patience. Hope to see you again some time. Have fun! and happy early birthday.

hi Jeff! This is way overdue but since i have not been at sitwells in a long time, I recently only learned of Michael Riley’s passing. very sad. There is a tribute for him Saturday night – 11/14/2009 at the Clifton Cultural arts center @ 6pm.
