Woot! Being stubborn & angry > technology
So, it is almost enough to give me religion — the olde timey, testifyin’, can-I-get-an-AMEN!-bruthers-and-sisters kinda religion. Shortly after I made the previous post, I got up, got a breath of fresh air, listened to the crickets, then came back to my desk for another assault on my import problem.
To make a long story short, in the end my stubborn perseverance coupled with my web search skills (no thanks to f***king Google and its propensity to show me pages that it thinks I want to see, as opposed to pages that actually have my search terms in them), and figured out that my php.ini file was giving a shout out to a temp director, /tmp, that didn’t exist. I made that folder in my root directory, and WordPress let me import, no sweat. Only took about 3 hours of teeth nashing, swearing, fist-making, etc. And that was after an evening spent getting Yahoo to play nice with WordPress 2.6.1.
So now I have a WordPress blog installed on my Yahoo site, but I’m not using Yahoo’s implementation of WordPress, which consist of weaksauce. And I can upgrade WordPress at my leisure with FTP, make what changes I want to it, etc., etc.,
Nerds of the world, unite!
So to hell with tinkering with html and CSS all the time; WordPress, ye shall be my content management system, and all will be well.
P.S. Gotta give credit where credit is due: one Nathan Turner at Natespost proved invaluable. Nate, you da man.
